In 1991 the country was in the midst of a tenacious debate about unity, with multiculturalism being seen as both a minus and a plus in bringing the country together. This critique in the Globe and Mail echoed Bibby's thinking in his 1990 best-selling book, Mosaic Madness: Pluralism Without a Cause.
